The Batch 1994 of Miss Universe is one of the most
successful batch in history in terms of group performance.
Eight out of the ten semi–finalist who made it in the
competition all became successful in their own field in their respective
countries. Two who are no longer active to date are Minorka Mercado of
Venezuela who was the second runner up on that year and Miss Sweden, Domenique
Forsberg. None of the candidate was involved in a scandal. Arriana David
(Italy) did some topless pictorials but unlike others who posed nude, she
didn’t show off her pelvic part.
Nevertheless, some of the candidates who didn’t place in
the Top 10 did became successful too. In fact, even more successful than the
winner, Sushmita Sen. They are Inna Zubova (Russia), Vielka Valenzuela
(Dominican Republic), Areeya Chumsai (Thailand) and Paulyn Sun (Singapore).
This batch also produced the highest recorded scores in Miss
Universe history ever since the scoring system was introduced in 1978. The
three finalist all occupy the Ten Highest scores in the Evening Gown
Competition. Carolina Gomez (Colombia) has the highest Evening Gown score of
9.897. Minorka Mercado (Venezuela) has the fourth highest score of 9.843 and
Sushmita Sen (India) has the sixth highest score of 9.792. Using today’s
standard of 16 semi–finalist, Charlene Gonzales (Philippines) is on the
twelfth place with a score of 9.72 where she tied with Marena Bencomo (Miss
Venezuela 1997) & Veruzkha Ramirez (Miss Venezuela 1998).
As for the Swimsuit Competition, Minorka Mercado’s score
of 9.752 is the fifth highest score in history while Sushmita Sen’s score of
9.722 is the seventh highest score to date. All semi-finalist of this batch scored "nine point something" in the preliminary pageant.
