Concept of a National Costume

Following are the best in National Costume for the last 10 years at Miss Universe pageant. No award was given in 2007. Thailand is the most successful country having won four times in the last 10 years.

The traditional National Costume of Philippines in international pageants are "always" limited to the "Filipiniana" because the designers logic is "that is why it is called National costume why do you have to deviate from it." It is also with that context that the Philippines is not winning in National Costume award.

When Japan won the National Costume award, the costume is not a
"Kimono" but rather an inspiration of the "Samurai." Therefore, National Costume isn't necessarily limited to a "national dress."

In the Philippines, there are a lot of inspiration to draw a national costume. The only dilemma there is how to integrate it to a "costume" that will create an impact of modernity. Some of the inspiration that we can draw upon would be the "Adarna", "Sarimanok", "Tarsier","Jeep", "Tricycle", "Sampaguita","Philippine Eagle", or even "Jollibee".
