It is very apparent that
Venezuela already achieved the number one position as the utmost Beauty Capital
of the World. The next thing it has to accomplish is to be on the “Hall of
Fame.” To be on the Hall of Fame, it has to be number one on all the Big Four
ranking which means to say that it has to bump Brazil in its number one position
at Miss Earth. And it has to bump USA in its number one position at Miss
Universe. To bump Brazil at the number
one position, Venezuela has to produce three Miss Air for three consecutive
years but that is granting Brazil will not win Miss Earth again. It is very
obvious that Brazil has always been sending beautiful girls yearly at Miss
Earth and if not for the “bring your own translator policy” of Miss Earth, the
possibility of Brazil earning another crown is not impossible. Nevertheless,
the sure thing for Venezuela to do to takeover Brazil’s place at number one
position is to earn another crown.
Osmel Sousa has a difficult job
to do if it wants Venezuela to be on the Hall of Fame of Beauty. Once Venezuela
entered the Hall of Fame, it will be “very” difficult for any other country in
the world to defeat that record. The magic number to be at the Hall of Fame is
“4.”
Defeating USA at the number one position for Miss Universe is the most difficult thing that Venezuela has to accomplish. Even if it earns its eight crown and tied with USA, it will still be at number two position considering the number of runners up and semi–finalist that USA has already produced at Miss Universe. To be sure at the number one position, it has to earn two consecutive crown the way it did in 2008 and 2009.
Venezuela has three years the
maximum in order to accomplish that. It is because, at Miss International, it
is almost neck to neck with Philippines. If Philippines will produce two
consecutive Miss International (which will be the first record of the pageant),
it will automatically be number one at Miss International ranking. In order to
sustain that position, Venezuela has to produce one more Miss International so
that Philippines will remain at the number two position. Miss International is
the “moodiest” if not a “spoiler” pageant of the Big Four. It is very
unpredictable as to what it likes with the candidate it is selecting. Remember
Miss Universe batch 1993, Dayanarra Torres competed at Miss International 1992
and ended up as semi–finalist. Dayanarra’s second runner up was Milka Chulina
of Venezuela who then competed at the 1994 Miss International but ended up as
semi–finalist only as well. Three year interval yet producing same result.
At Miss World, it is under threat
from United Kingdom, with six first runner up and five winners, once UK produced
its sixth Miss World, Venezuela will slip to number two at Miss World thereby
losing its chance once more to be at the Hall of Fame though it will still keep
its number one position.
From 1951 to present, there are
only seven years by which Venezuela didn’t place in any of the Big Four pageant
as applicable: 2004, 1983, 1982, 1977, 1974, 1965 and 1963. I wonder if Osmel Sousa
is sick during those years that he fail to train the girls.
For USA, it is underperforming at
Miss Earth, however, should it win just one crown, it will jump from number 14
to 5 and its total score will then jump at 11 which is just three notches away
from to be on the number one position.
At Miss International, it has to
earn two more crowns in order to displace Philippines at the number two
position. At Miss World, it has to produce three more Winners in order to
displace Venezuela in the number one position.
The greatest impact of USA at the
Big Four ranking is its performance at Miss Earth. It is the easiest to
accomplish considering the English skills of its candidates thus it should be
able to produce one Miss Earth but Miss Earth is a Brazilian arena. Even
Venezuela & Philippines will have a hard time defeating the Brazilians in
this competition.
On the third spot is the
Philippines, the third country to win the Big Four. It is underperforming at
Miss World at rank 19. Just like USA, should Philippines produce one more Miss
World, it will jump from rank 19 to rank 10 which is 9 notches up. It will displace
Argentina on the tenth position at Miss World. Should it happen, Philippine
total score will then become 21 with possibility of becoming the second Beauty
Capital of the World.
At Miss Universe, it has to
produce one more crown. Should it happen, it will then displace Brazil at the
number five position at Miss Universe ranking.
At Miss International, even if
Philippines earn its sixth crown, it will still be second to Venezuela because
of Venezuela’s five first runner up record at that pageant.
Brazil, the first country to earn
the Big Four crown is the fourth beauty capital of the world with one point
difference from India. It is performing well at Miss Earth but not at Miss
International. Brazil has to produce one more Miss International to jump to
number 8 which is seven notches up to displace United Kingdom at the eight
spot.
Brazil’s biggest task is to be
able to produce one more Miss World so that it will jump from number 26 to 14.
India is still set to have one
Miss International title to enter the Big Four. It performed well at this
pageant when it started in 1960 when Iona Pinto was 1st Runner Up to
Stella Marquez. The highest performance of India at Miss International is in
2003 when Shonali Nograni won as 1st Runner Up to Venezuela’s
Goizeder Azua. The significance of Miss International to India is that it will
enter the Big Four and second it will displace Brazil at the 4th
position as Beauty Capital of the World. Should India win a Miss International
crown, it will jump from number 30 to number 15 where it will displaced Brazil
on the 15th spot. India already won the Miss Earth crown in 2010
when Nicole Faria won the title.
Four countries is set to enter
the Big Four by winning the Miss Earth crown: USA, Finland, Puerto Rico and
Australia. India has no competitor at Miss International. It just need to
perform well at that pageant to please the moody Japanese.
I created this table so that a
country will know where they are and where they are going. I created a tag for
“Consistent Finalist” because the Runners Up of the pageant serves as a
“tie–breaker” in the ranking system thus it is important to recognize the spectacular
performance done by a country. To be a Finalist for a year is already an
accomplishment but to sustain that accomplishment for at least three years in a
row is an achievement.
All of these are plain
statistics, in the end, the winner would still has a choice whether her victory
would be the start of a wonderful career or just a momentous event. Evidently,
there are those who didn’t win in the pageant who ended up as more successful
than the winner. Click on the page “The Successful Candidate” to garner
inspiration.
